This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and protect your personal data when you visit this website or buy the Lakes & Cumbria Guide. Please read it alongside our Terms & Conditions.
This website is operated by Offstone Publishing Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”), and we are the data controller for the personal data described here. We are registered in England and Wales under company number 07221034, with our registered office at C11 Marquis Court, Team Valley Trading Estate, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, NE11 0RU. You can contact us about privacy at info@lakesandcumbriaguide.co.uk.
When you place an order, we collect your name, email address, delivery address (for printed copies) and, if you provide it, your phone number. Your payment is handled by our payment provider, and we do not see or store your full card details.
When you contact us or request our advertising media pack, we collect your name, business name, email address, phone number and the content of your message.
When you sign up to our newsletter or opt in to marketing, we collect your email address and, where given, your name.
When you browse the site, we automatically collect standard technical data such as your IP address, browser and device type and the pages you view, through cookies and similar technologies.
We process your personal data for the following purposes and on the following legal bases under UK data protection law:
To process and deliver your order, provide customer service and send order-related emails. Our legal basis is performance of our contract with you.
To respond to your enquiries and advertising requests. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you and running our business.
To send you marketing about new editions and offers. Our legal basis is your consent, or our legitimate interest where you are an existing customer and we are telling you about similar products. You can unsubscribe at any time.
To meet our legal and accounting obligations, such as keeping tax and transaction records. Our legal basis is compliance with a legal obligation.
To keep the website secure and to understand and improve how it is used. Our legal basis is our legitimate interests, and your consent for any non-essential cookies.
We only send marketing emails where we are permitted to. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time by using it or by emailing us. Unsubscribing does not stop the order-related emails we need to send to fulfil a purchase.
Payments are processed securely by our payment provider, Stripe. Your card details are entered directly with the provider over an encrypted connection and are not stored on our website.
Our website uses cookies to function, for example to remember the contents of your basket, and, where you agree, to understand how visitors use the site through Google Analytics. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings, although some parts of the site may not work properly without essential cookies.
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with trusted providers who help us run the business, under appropriate agreements: our payment provider (Stripe) to take payment; Royal Mail to deliver printed copies; Microsoft 365 to send and receive email; our website hosting provider; and our analytics provider (Google) where analytics cookies are enabled. We may also disclose data where we are required to do so by law.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses, to make sure your data remains protected.
We keep order and transaction records for as long as we need them to provide the service and to meet our legal and tax obligations, which is generally six years. We keep marketing contacts until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@lakesandcumbriaguide.co.uk. We will respond within one month.
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted (SSL) connections and controlled access. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Our website and products are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always appear on this page, along with the date it was last updated.
For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, contact Offstone Publishing Limited at info@lakesandcumbriaguide.co.uk, or write to us at C11 Marquis Court, Team Valley Trading Estate, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, NE11 0RU. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Thank you for your order. Your printed copy of the Lakes & Cumbria Guide will be posted to your address and should arrive within 7 working days.
